Stuart Wheeler, a Council Member of The Freedom Association, has recently become treasurer of the fourth largest political party in the UK. Having donated generously to the Conservative party in the past, he was expelled from the party for giving a £100,000 donation to UKIP before the 2009 European election. This ludicrous decision has come back to haunt the Conservative party, as Stuart Wheeler has now decided to dedicate all his energy to helping UKIP.

"He said: "I believe that what UKIP is doing is vital for this country, and of course the party's financial management is crucial.

"So I am very honoured to have been appointed Treasurer and I shall do my very best in both helping to raise money for the party and in the management of its financial affairs under Nigel Farage as leader and Steve Crowther as executive chairman."

Mr Farage said: "I am absolutely thrilled that Stuart Wheeler has become UKIP's Treasurer. Our policies are now mainstream in British politics: all that is holding us back is a lack of funds and I believe that a highly respected Eurosceptic like Stuart will help us do the job." – The BBC

This is a huge boost for UKIP, who have now gained the support of a very dedicated eurosceptic. Those who oppose the European Union still face a difficult question in deciding which political party to support and personally I believe the best solution is to help non-partisan organisations such as The Freedom Association. However, I do support many of UKIP's aims and I wish them all the best. I'm very pleased to see that they now have such a sound treasurer. If UKIP were to gain more seats than the Conservative party at the next European elections, it would send a powerful message to David Cameron that he has totally failed to appease the eurosceptics within his party. With Stuart Wheeler on board UKIP may be one step closer to making this dream a reality.

One Response to Stuart Wheeler becomes UKIP treasurer

  1. Richard Calhoun says:

As a Tory I am delighted to see that Stuart Wheeler has become Treasurer of UKIP.
To date UKIP have been unsuccessful in UK elections although have enjoyed success in Europe.
If they could win more seats in Europe than the Tories that would indeed make the major parties sit up and think, however if they could win 2 or 3 UK seats in parliament it would frighten the life out of them.
The Tories should come out with a promise of a Referendum, in or out, before the the next election, despite promises from all 3 parties this will not happen unless UKIP is successful. Are they likely to be? Probably not.
However if UKIP and the likes of the Freedom Assn and other like minded pressure groups could coordinate their efforts then there might be a possibility they would be more successful.
