Tributes to Norris
McWhirter CBE: III |
|
Gerald Howarth MP: |
|
I have had the privilege of knowing Norris
since that meeting by Tower Bridge in December 1975 when the National
Association for Freedom was born. Norris's determined, unwavering and
principled stand in defence of the ancient liberties of Her Majesty's
subjects was an inspiration to all who shared his love of freedom. |
| His campaign to protect the rights of the British people
against those who would hand power to others on the Continent played a part
in shifting public opinion. He was always positive, invariably
good-humoured, but unrelenting. The fact that he was a popular TV
personality and had so successfully (with Ross) produced the record-breaking
Guinness Book of Records meant that the sneering classes found him a
difficult target to mock. |
|
We shall all miss him. However, as we
embark on the historic mission to reject the EU constitution, let us
redouble our efforts to secure victory as the best tribute we can pay to
Norris - and Ross - for their achievements. |
| Philip Duly: |
|
I had only known Norris for two years but
always found him engaging, inspiring and wise. Like all great people,
he was creative, feisty and sincere. I shall especially miss his
anecdotes which were original, sometimes amusing but always pertinent.
We have all lost a great freedom warrior. |
| Michael Mulcahy: |
| With deepest regrets and sadness, an icon of true British
political gentleness has said farewell. |
| Basil and Margaret Crews (South Africa): |
| What a devastating blow to your organisation. Thank
you for allowing us to share the period of grief by putting us so fully in
the picture regarding the great merits of Norris McWhirter. We trust
that his efforts throughout so many years will now bear fruit in the
referendum. Our best wishes to you in your future endeavours. |
| Robert Halfon: |
| A great and kind man who did so much for the cause of
freedom and fought so hard to stop Britain being submerged into a European
superstate. |
