The Freedom Zone

Don't miss The Freedom Zone - the biggest event ever held on the Conservative Party Conference fringe.  A new venture, it is hosted by The Freedom Association together with Forest/The Free Society.  Dedicated to putting individual freedom at the top of the political agenda, it takes place from 8.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. on Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 September at the Austin Court conference centre, 80 Cambridge Street, Birmingham B1 2NP, a stone's throw from the International Convention Centre, Birmingham (see maps, below), where the Conservative Party Conference will be held.

Austin Court is a superb venue, right at the hub of Birmingham's attractive and historic Brindley Place canal network.  The Freedom Zone will be held in the state-of-the-art 150-seat Kingston Theatre and the adjoining canal-side Coffee Lounge, which also holds 150 people reception-style.

The canal-side Coffee Lounge will offer complimentary bacon and sausage butties for breakfast, with free tea and coffee throughout the day.  Just outside the conference security zone, The Freedom Zone is open to all - you don't need a conference pass, though Conservative Party delegates and observers will, of course, be very welcome.

The coffee lounge will provide giant wide-screen television coverage of the Conservative Party Conference throughout the day, with complimentary newspapers and comfortable armchairs for you to relax and meet friends.  There will be free wi-fi access and an interview area, with a Taxpayers' Alliance/Global Vision stand, a History Man bookstall and a chance to meet Matthew Elliott and Ruth Lea, together with book-signing sessions with Daniel Hannan MEP, Douglas Carswell MP, authors of the newly published book, The Plan - twelve months to renew Britain and Nigel Hastilow.

If you're interested in applying for a stand in The Freedom Zone, or would like to hold a book-signing or other event there, please e-mail Simon Richards for details.

    Norris McWhirter CBE

    • Freedom Today special tribute edition
Norris McWhirter CBE founded The Freedom Association, along with his twin brother, Ross, and Viscount De L'Isle VC KG PC GCMG GCVO. Ross and Norris McWhirter were invited to Lord De L’Isle’s home at Penshurst Place in Kent on the hottest day of the year, Thursday 12 June 1975. At a light lunch on a small round table that Lord De L’Isle had acquired at an auction at Chartwell, home of Sir Winston Churchill, plans were hatched to convene a meeting of fifty prominent people from politics, business, the armed services, the church and the professions at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on Thursday 31 July.
