Oddly, conservatives don’t seem to support deregulation or “limited government” when it comes to labour relations, or trade unions. The 1980 ,1982 , 1984, 1988, 1990 and 1993 Employment Acts were repeated attempts to restrict trade unions and limit their activities. Clearly, conservatives and ‘libertarians’ do support ‘red tape’ when it reduces the powers of trade unions. And yet trade unions remain democratic organisations, with elected leaders.
