I want to visit the Blighty UK Cafe at Finsbury Park. It sounds like a great place. It is decorated with model spitfires and has a statue of Winston Churchill. You can even drink your tea out of a Churchill mug, and one of the breakfasts on offer is the "Winston". If you are hungry, now is the time to skip the rest of this paragraph, because for £9.90 you will be served a traditional full English. The "Winston" comprises of British bacon, 2 fried eggs, Cumberland sausage, Yorkshire black pudding, bone marrow, tomatoes, mushrooms, red onion, thyme, homemade baked beans, and sourdough toast.
If you are a vegetarian, you can try the "Clementine", and if you are a vegan, you can tuck into the "Ghandi". The website states that they are serious about coffee and all the beans are sourced from Commonwealth countries - Rwanda, Kenya, India, Tanzania, Papua New Guinea and Malawi. What isn't there to like about this cafe?
Welcome to the world of loony left politics, now brought into the mainstream by Jeremy Corbyn and his army of thugs. Last Saturday, a group of nine protesters burst into the cafe and staged a demonstration. Their leader was a hard left nut-job called Halimo Hussein. To her and her acolytes, Churchill was a racist and therefore the cafe is promoting racism and oppressive colonialism. Forget that he stood up to the Nazis and led this country to victory in the Second World War. Forget that. That's nothing. Her heroes are Jeremy Corbyn and the barmy Russell Brand. Despite living in a free society, after her family fled for their lives from Somalia, she is heard repeatedly chanting, "We have nothing to lose but our chains". What chains? This country is one of the most liberal democracies in the world - at least it was before idiots like Hussein came along and started trying to force everyone to comply with their demands.
There used to be a mural of Churchill outside the cafe, but that had to be removed because vandals defaced it with "scum" and "imperialist" daubed over it. There isn't any evidence that Hussein and her gang were responsible for that, but I am sure that they heartily approve.
When one of the cafe's customers shouted back at the protesters that Churchill fought for freedom, the response was that Churchill was a racist. Well I have news for these Britain hating nut-jobs: you are worse than the genuine racists and bigots that you say you are fighting against. You are worse than the fascists you attack on a daily basis. You don't care for other people's freedom to enjoy a cup of coffee in peace. If you disapprove of the choices of others in a free society, you don't start a reasoned debate. No, you bully and intimidate because you think you have all the moral superiority there is in the world and those with whom you disagree are somehow sub-human and only worthy of contempt.
I am next in London in February, and on one of the days I am in town, I will be heading to the Blighty UK Cafe at Finsbury Park for a "Winston". I will request that my coffee is served in a Winston Churchill mug and I will celebrate one of the greatest statesmen the world has ever known. Churchill did fight for freedom, and if it hadn't been for his leadership in our darkest hours, immature Marxist anarchists like Halimo Hussein wouldn't be free to spread their hate. It's a price that we pay for living in a free society, not that we should take it lying down. Fight back. Visit Blighty and show your support.
