The Freedom Association responds to Philip Hammond’s NIC U-Turn

Responding to the announcement this morning from Philip Hammond, Chancellor of the Exchequer, that the proposed rise in Class 4 National Insurance Contributions (NIC) has been scrapped, Andrew Allison, Head of Campaigns of the Freedom Association, said:

“I wrote last week that the Chancellor would perform a u-turn by the end of the month. Instead, it only took him a week. Not only should manifesto promises be kept, this rise would have been an attack on those who aspire to a better life for their family and themselves. For the Chancellor of the Exchequer last week to give the impression that the army of self-employed people in this country have somehow got an easy life because they pay lower National Insurance contributions is just plain stupid. This is the right thing to do.”
