Responding to the announcement this morning that the Labour Party now backs a second EU referendum and will campaign for Remain, Andrew Allison, Head of Campaigns, said:

"Today's announcement is a betrayal of all those Leave voters who have stuck with the party through thick and thin, and is a betrayal of the promises the party made in its manifesto in 2017. 

"Seventy percent of Labour constituencies voted to Leave the European Union. If Labour thinks it can hold on to its seats in places like these, it will have a lot of explaining to do. People like Yvette Cooper in Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford could very easily be toast. She is already deeply unpopular with many of her constituents because of her attempts to stop Brexit. This could easily tip her over the edge. The voters will not forget".
